Abstract: This 12 page paper examines a case study supplied by the student, Johnson Beverage Inc. have used absorption costing for many years to assess the profitability of the contracts they have with their customers. The paper looks at the way that have prepared costings and then developed an activity based approach to assess the accuracy of absorption costing, finding that it is misleading due to very different customer service costs for the different customer. The full calculations are shown and the results as well as the benefits of using activity based costing are discussed. The bibliography cites 5 sources.
