International Trade Law & the European Union

Abstract: Some theorists and legal specialists have argued that the 15 member countries of the European Union have such a diverse range of international trade laws that complications will inherently occur as a result of attempts to promote greater trade openness leading up to the installation of the European Monetary Union under the euro in the next decade. This 27 page paper provides an overview of the major components of international trade law that pose a threat to the easy initiation of the European Monetary Union, and then relates the current trade laws for many of the member countries to issues in external trade processes.
