Abstract: A 10 page paper discussing the influence that Martin Block had on the evolution of music radio in the US and the ways in which the role of the disc jockey have changed. Martin Block coined the term disc jockey after he suggested in 1935 that his radio station play recorded music as they waited for news of the Lindberg kidnapping trial, creating an industry. Today's disc jockeys tend to meet the stars as the fans do, but music hopefuls in Block's time auditioned for him and his colleagues. Today's disc jockeys are only slightly more privileged than the fans and their listeners, and no longer possess any of the powers of the past. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
