Abstract: The growth of social media, including weblogs and podcasts, can be seen as having a significant impact on the communicative power balance between those who attempt to report the news. This 14 page paper discusses whether it is possible to draw a clear theoretical distinction between a someone working for a traditional news organisation and a citizen journalist with his or her own weblog and looks at what the role of the journalist is, or may be, in the word of social media.
