Abstract: This 12 page paper considers the issues surrounding the maintenance of a rural hospital and then considers the specifics elements that impact Island Hospital in Washington state. This paper assesses the composition of the patient population, the service composition, the development of strategic product lines, and even the integration of alternative services plans, including visiting specialists clinics, as a means of maintaining the necessary services across the spectrum of care.
