Adam Smith's Division of Labor

Abstract: A 6 page paper discussing Smith's account of the origination of worker specialization, or division of labor. It was the worker who devised improvements to make his job easier and more productive. The goal of each small invention was not to contribute to the good of society or to propel the workman into a class of 'genius,' but rather to better individuals' living conditions. Produce more, earn more, purchase more goods to make life more comfortable and enjoyable. It is a common concept today, but new when Adam Smith proposed it in The Wealth of Nations.
