French v. British Press

Abstract: A 6 page research paper that compares and contrasts French and British newspaper reporting. The writer argues that French newspapers are moving toward more investigative reporting, while British journalists, according to Pilger (1996b) appear to be moving away from investigative journalism. While French papers continue to assume that their readers are intelligent and cognizant of current events, British newspapers, particularly those owned by Rupert Murdoch, are accused of "dumbing down" their content to fit the lowest possible common denominator of public interest. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
