Abstract: A 3 page explication of W.B. Yeats' poem "The Lake Isle of Innisfree." The writer argues that Innisfree reflects Yeats' desire to escape from the turmoil of urban life and live in a manner that puts him in touch with nature, and, by implication with his own inner self. While this is a highly romantic notion, examination of Yeats' poem demonstrates that Yeats achieves romanticism without sentimentality, imparting to the poem a haunting quality that is timeless.
