Speech Therapy/Tracheotomized Children

Abstract: A 10 page paper that examines the effects of tracheotomy on children's speech production. Tracheotomy, while saving a child's life by providing an unobstructed air supply, has also shown to entail developmental risks, such as speech delay. This effect of tracheotomies in young children has been well documented, particularly in regards to children who have long-term tracheotomy. This examination of literature pertaining to this topic investigates what studies have discerned relative to this problem, and also shows the need for more research on this topic.
