Urban Design: The Industrial Revolution and Beyond

Abstract: A 9 page overview of the factors entering into urban design during and immediately following the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain and in the United States. The contention is presented that while Britain felt the need to move beyond the grid system which had characterized early urban design, America did not have the same space constraints nor the immediate need to convey the sense of space and thus continued to perpetuate the grid. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
