Teaching And Learning In The Community College

Abstract: A 16 page paper. The presenting question is: Would interactive activities, such as board games, satisfy the various learning styles in a community college introductory finance class? This essay first provides a brief overview of community colleges for the purpose of establishing a mind-set about this level of education. The overview includes national statistical data about community colleges. The next topic to be discussed is the adult learner, how the adult learner learns. Mezirow, Freire and Knowles are brought into this discussion. All of these theorists offered insights about the adult learner. The longest section in this essay explains different learning styles that have been identified in the literature, including visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic, the 4MAT system, Kolb's model, and experiential learning theories. Based on the foregoing explanations and discussions, a conclusion is made regarding the presenting question. Bibliography lists 15 sources.
