The Problem with Forecasting

Abstract: This 5 page paper considers how forecasting may be inaccurate and problematic. Reliance on forecasting can lead to erroneous operational decisions being made, such as the case of Bic's subsidiary company Sheaffer found out. In this paper the writer looks at the different forms of forecasting and how they may be used, but arguing that monitoring of resulting and constant vigilance are required when forecasts are used and that flexible operations may be more advantageous than good forecasts.
