The Influence of Hero Worship

Abstract: This 11 page paper consider the way in which hero worship may be both a positive and a negative influence on society. Using the examples of sporting stars the paper discusses the sociological and psychological framework that gives the stars their power and how it can be seen to impact on those what 'worship' them. Examples of sporting heroes, past and present are used, including Jackie Robinson, Dwight Gooden and O.J Simpson. The bibliography cites 11 sources.
