Abstract: A 12 page paper discussing the difficulties inherent in merging the cultures of companies joining forces. Whether the companies are equals in terms of value should mean less than it usually does. The paper provides examples of both failed and successful mergers, and the common factor in each can be traced to the manner in which workforces were joined. Attitudes of superiority of one over the other dooms the culture merge. Some companies have used their mergers as opportunities to create a more open and trusting culture than existed before. Bibliography lists 18 sources.
