Alternative Minimum Tax

Abstract: A 12 page paper discussing the tax originally intended to keep the nation's wealthiest individuals from being able to deduct their way into little or no tax liability. Inflation and increasing popularity of investing in the stock market have contributed to much greater numbers of people being subject to the alternative minimum tax in addition to their regular tax. The paper identifies and discusses the most common ways that middle-class taxpayers become subject to the AMT. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
