Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing the index fund as one instrument that holds great promise regardless of market conditions. Investing in the market is no longer an either/or proposition. Anyone seeking to build a substantial financial base for the future is obliged to take part in it in some form. The index fund not only is good for the more casual, less involved investor, it is also good for those who are greatly involved and tempted to chase those yielding the greatest short-term gains.
