Abstract: Joseph Campbell, in his 1972 book, Myths To Live By, argued that the individual in search of spirituality through myths must disengage from the elementary idea by recognizing each image of God is merely a symbol of the beliefs held by a culture and is representative of all beliefs stemming from that same mystery. This 15 page paper argues that myth is more than a symbol or a format for storytelling - it includes the seeds of change. Through the development of myths, the modern individual may be able to impact the future as well as to provide meaning to the present. Bibliography lists 6 sources, all by Joseph Campbell.
