Monopolies and Patents; Economic Issues

Abstract: This 5 page paper consider the hypothetical situation where a discovery for AIDS is found. The direct and indirect economic aspects of a company holding the monopoly on the cure are discussed in the first part of the paper, with the second part of the paper considering the rationale behind the granting of patent and whether or not a patent should be broken when the issue is as important as the AIDS cure.
