Abstract: When considering the issue of the Jewish State and the imperative of its formation as a central component of the Jewish identity, the perspectives of men like Theodor Herzl and Ahad Ha-Am provided differentiated views on the subject. This 5 page paper considers the perspectives of both Herzl and Ahad Ha-Am, especially as they relate to being a citizen in the state, a member of a family, a participant in a particular national or cultural tradition.
