Abstract: This 6 page paper considers the basic elements of Eastern European marriages, with a specific focus on the marriages of Jewish woman and those in the Shtetls in England. This paper also looks at the standards and values of marriage in the Jewish culture and the specific issues related to the status of the agunot (plural of agunah), Jewish women who are left without being divorced.
