Functionalist, Interpretive, and Critical Perspectives in Communication

Abstract: A 5 page discussion of communication styles. Delineates between functionalist, interpretive, and critical styles utilizing the arenas of business and politics. Asserts that proper communication skills allows individuals and organizations to share information, analyze situations and to set goals and notes that it is an acknowledged fact that conversational styles and communication skills vary between cultures and genders. These styles vary considerably according to purpose as well. Communication is the most effective tool in many instances for bringing another individual around to a certain viewpoint. It is, however, a tool whose use can change significantly according to the environment. There are 5 sources listed in the bibliography.
