The Environmental Hazards of Newspaper Deinking Techniques

Abstract: An 8-page paper that examines the industrial process of deinking that has conventionally been used to recycle old newspapers in order to reuse their fiber content. Discussed are the environmental hazards created by the interaction of chemicals during the deinking process and the harmful effect these chemicals can have on both animals and humans. Included are measures that have been taken during the last decade to mitigate these hazards by producing cleaner and safer deinking methods. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
