Many people think of a venture capitalist as a very wealthy individual who is somewhat philanthropic giving money to people with good ideas. This is a misperception. The greater majority of venture capital comes from venture capital firms that are professionally managed and usually limited partnerships or tightly held corporations. The writer provides a comprehensive overview of the venture capital industry, including comparisons of venture capital funds provided for specific industry groups. 2 tables are included.
