Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing whether net present value (NPV) is as reliable a measure as it has been believed to be in the past. NPV is not a dead measure yet, but it must be used with caution and with awareness of just what is being measured. Unlike the indication of the opening statement, the use of NPV does not require the blind acceptance of all of financial management theory, even though it requires a working knowledge of it. It has fallen from the level of gospel to that of a uniform comparative measure. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
